Francesco Martinelli has been with Applanix for 18 years and has held numerous positions ranging from customer support product manager, product engineer to his most recent role as the Indoor Business Development Manager for TIMMS Product & Services.
During his time at Applanix, Francesco was a pivotal influence in the design phase of Trimble Indoor Mobile Mapping Solution (TIMMS). TIMMS is a complete, all-in-one solution of built in software specifically designed and integrated to deliver full indoor mobile mapping. He was a key influence throughout its conception and remained working closely to the product delivering it to its market potential.
Currently he serves as management to a sales team and executes business development strategies globally. Holding a wealth of technical knowledge while remaining connected heavily with industry experts, he has become a prominent figure in providing advanced land solutions. He is passionate about establishing lasting relationships within the industry and believes in the voice of the customer. It is with this philosophy he has inspired a plethora of customer success stories in providing innovative products with first-class support.

Applanix, a Trimble company, has made indoor mobile mapping possible. This presentation details the wide capability and productivity of the Trimble Indoor Mobile Mapping Solution (TIMMS), which, in the absence of GNSS, is able to acquire highly accurate indoor 2D and 3D point cloud data in addition to spherical imagery.
Traditionally, indoor mapping has used a “total stations” survey approach: a tripod-mounted static scanner and camera are set up at many successive static locations throughout the building to capture measurements and images that are later merged to provide a consistent data set. This method is time consuming, labour intensive, and very costly. Applanix developed TIMMS (Trimble Indoor Mobile Mapping Solution) to address this problem. Equipped with a fusion of technologies for capturing spatial data of GPS-denied locations, TIMMS provides LiDAR point-clouds and spherical photographic imagery of an indoor space, enabling the creation of accurate, real-life representations (maps, models) of the space and all its contents.
Applanix has worked with owners of historical buildings, public indoor spaces, educational establishments and commercial properties to deliver indoor map products in a tenth of the time and at less than half the cost of the “total stations” approach.
